Menopause--Jing Duan

 

Western - 3 types

  • Natural menopause - occurs gradually, between ages 45 & 55, duration is usually 5 to 10 years
  • Premature menopause - Occurs faster and earlier, 1 in 100 will complete menopause by age 40. Duration is usually 1 to 3 years, could have a History of being excessively athletic, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is usually recommended.
  • Artificial menopause - Occurs abruptly by surgical removal of the ovaries or disruption of blood supply to ovaries, HRT is almost always given

Symptoms

  • Symptoms of decreased progesterone and estrogen dominance are:
    • Decreased sex drive, irregular or abnormal periods
    • Bloating, Breast swelling and tenderness
    • Mood swings, weight gain
    • Cold hands and feet, Headaches

 

  • Symptoms of estrogen Xu are:
    • Hot flashes, Night sweats
    • Vaginal dryness, mood swings
    • Mental fuzziness, Headaches, Migraines
    • Vaginal or bladder infections, recurring UTI’s
    • Vaginal wall thinning, decreased sexual response

 

  • Symptoms of estrogen Shi are:

  • Symptoms of Testosterone Xu are:
    • Decreased libido, impaired sexual function, decreased energy
    • Decreased sense of well being, thinning pubic hair

 

  • Symptoms of Testosterone Shi (Overdose) are:
    • Acne, increased facial hair, mood swings, deepened voice
